There is nothing better than South American Guacamole served with your favorite spicy dish. In addition, it can be used as a marinade, dip, spread or relish. As a marinade, you can slather the fresh guacamole on chicken, beef or fish before grilling. As a spread, you can add this tasty version to quesadillas, tacos or even a favorite sandwich. South American Guacamole is also great as a party dip served with chips or nachos.

This recipe is easy to prepare and can be quickly made when pressed for time. For best results, serve the guacamole fresh. However, for short term storage you can seal it in an air tight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

This recipe can easily be doubled. So be sure and make extra, South American Guacamole is a big hit.

Ingredients:

  • 4 avocados, ripe peeled and seeded (large approximately 8 ounce each)
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 medium tomato (Roma is best), seeded, diced
  • 1⁄2 cup sweet white onion, minced
  • 2 serrano, aji or jalapeno chilies, seeded and minced
  • 1⁄2 cup cilantro, chopped fine
  • 3-4 tablespoons fresh lime juice, to taste
  • Hot pepper sauce or salsa, to taste
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Preparation:

  • In a large bowl, slice the avocado into large chunks.
  • Mash the avocado until smooth and creamy. Leave a few chunks if desired.
  • Chop the hot peppers, tomatoes, onion and cilantro.
  • Gently mix in the hot peppers, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lime juice, hot pepper sauce, salt and black pepper. Add more hot pepper sauce, salt and black pepper if needed.
  • Serve immediately.
